Nearly a century ago, Pakistan University was founded by the British government to provide facilities for the training of teachers in the newly created British colony. The University in Lahore boasts of being one of the oldest universities in the subcontinent and, arguably, in the world.
It was first established in 1907 as the General Government High School in Lahore. The new institution was granted its own university status in the year 1919.

Currently the University has 46 departments and 18,000 students. It has about 70 disciplines of study and over 170 teaching staff.
In addition to its reputation as a training ground for teachers, the University offers graduate courses and degrees in the humanities, social sciences, law, medicine, fine arts, agriculture and engineering.

Established in 1938, the University of Agriculture is known as the top agricultural university in Pakistan. It offers 57 undergraduate and postgraduate programs in 18 disciplines.
It has seven campuses in different cities and offers a postgraduate degree in 43 disciplines. Some of the subjects include agriculture, geology, forestry, physics, agriculture economics, chemistry, pharmacology, botany, microbiology, biochemistry, botanical sciences, agricultural economics, agriculture engineering, animal science, agricultural extension studies, food chemistry, food science and engineering and soil science.

Pakistan Institute of Food & Nutrition Sciences
Established in 1987, the Institute of Food Technology is a renowned university in Pakistan. It offers 46 undergraduate and postgraduate programs in 22 disciplines.
Some of the courses offered include food processing and packaging, food technology, food chemistry, food technology and food engineering.
The institute is also known as Pakistan’s second university for food engineering.
